- Activities -

Throughout the day visitors of all ages will be able to enjoy a range of activities for free. Timings for activities will be written up on blackboards around the site to make sure you don’t miss anything and you can also ask volunteers at the info points who will be happy to give you a more details. Here’s a taster of what’s in store: 

Strictly Fairtrade
– Experienced dancers and beginners alike are invited to join us in the Tea Dance tent from 1.30pm, and enjoy music from Mr Wonderful Dancing and free Fairtrade tea from the Co-operative.

The Green Fair is also attempting to break a World Record – for the World’s Biggest Fairtrade Tea Dance – so we need as many dancers as possible to step up and take to the dance floor. Dancers are encouraged to dress up for the occasion. Instructors will be available to help you out and there will be prizes for participants. Please join us!  

Also in this tent, you’ll be able to enjoy music and dance from around the world, from noon until 7pm. 

Mad Hatter's Sustainable Tea Party – Learn about sustainable food with Alice and friends; enjoy your lunch in the picnic area or join in the activities in this crazy Tea Party. You can buy lots of lovely food from the Camden Green Fair, or why not bring a waste-free picnic to enjoy?

New Science Tent – We’re pleased to be joined this year by the Outreach Team from The Science Museum in this new, hands-on feature of the Green Fair. Visitors can expect hourly shows and frequent explosions as kids of all ages discover the joy of science!!!

Ethical Finance Zone– Learn how to make your money go green as well, in this new feature of the fair, supported by our Event Sponsor, Legal & General. This area will also include activities for children, information on debt management and much more.

Love London Speakers Forum - Throughout the day a series of debates will be held by key thinkers on environmental issues. Speakers include author, activist and patron of the Camden Green Fair, Mark Lynas on climate change; Dusty Gedge, Urban Ecologist and Co-Founder of Living Roofs on urban agriculture; an eco-chef mystery meal and an interfaith panel on the environment, as well as a Big Debate hosted by the Camden Youth Parliament.
The Forum is hosted by the Camden Green Fair on behalf of Love London and will mark the community launch for this year’s Love London festival – three weeks of celebrating community action on the environment in the capital.

Music and Dance– there will be music and dance throughout the day. The main stage will be powered by the sun and wind, and will be home to a range of amazing performers throughout the day including the legendary Barry Adamson. Other acts include Johnny Flynn, Capitol K, Captive State, Lazy Habits plus incredible local talent from the Camden Roundhouse Studios and Music for Youth.
We have received support this year to pay for the main stage from Groundwork North London and London Residential.

Farming & Food - This year's key theme is Sustainable food and with a selection of city farms and community gardens from within London, we’ll be bringing you activities throughout the Fair to celebrate and raise awareness of better food. Look out too for food waste composting throughout the site and an interesting use of food waste in the Low Emissions vehicle area. In the Animals and Nature zone children can take part in lots of food and farming activities, and even vote on which chicken looks most like a celebrity!
 
Goose Herding – that’s right. New to the Camden Green Fair this year is a special demonstration using traditional shepherding techniques with sheepdogs... to herd geese! There will be two shows held beside the main stage (while the stage is quiet between performances!) Don’t miss it.     

Green Roadshow
- Don’t miss this incredible solar powered circus tent with curriculum-based workshops on a host of environmental issues. A real highlight supported by Camden Council (Transport Planning Team) and Islington Council (Environment & Regeneration

Solar Cinema – a variety of films to suit all ages, in a cinema powered by energy from the sun. The programme of films has been organised by the Film Team at Camden Council. A blackboard outside the tent will show the next film to start.

Homes, energy and water – the Camden Green Fair’s very own GreenHouse will be on display again in this new improved area of the fair. Organised by Liz Laine, Delivery Team members and representative of Camden Friends of the Earth, visitors will learn about conserving resources in and around the home in this interactive zone.

Camden Council Sustainability Marquee– all the teams involved in sustainability within Camden Council will be together under one canvas roof at the Camden Green Fair this year. Residents are invited take this opportunity to meet the people involved in Sustainable Housing and Planning, find out about council recycling services, meet the Parks and Biodiversity teams, learn about what Camden’s doing to include greener transport options for the borough and find out how to be greener in the office. Camden will be launching their helpful new Green pages for their website and they would love to hear what you think. Area includes activities or children. 

Bikefest – here you’ll be able to try out unusual bikes and learn to be more confident on your bike. You can also park you bike here for the day. If you’re feeling energetic join others in an organised bike ride to the Fair from Hackney, Freightliners or Kentish Town City Farms or have a go on Rollapaluza’s static roller-racing rig on Chester Road. This area has been generously supported this year by Trek UK, and their event partners, CycleSurgery and CycleActive. Dr Bike – are your wheels in need of a bit of TLC? Trained bike mechanics are on-hand all day to carry out basic bike maintenance for free. Supported this year by CycleSurgery.

Look out too for biodegradable lubricant from Pedro – free to those who bring their bikes for a service. 

Yoga and health– for beginners and experienced yogis, head to the Health Zone lead by the London School of Yoga for workshops or massage. Also find a range of other conventional and alternative therapies and practices – free exhibitions throughout the day. 

Knitting – once only the domain of great aunts, this skill was in danger of getting lost. But now everyone’s doing it! To learn how easy it is, head to the fashion workshop area for one of three scheduled taster sessions. Experienced knitters will be on hand all day to show you the ropes.

DIY Fashion – turn an old pair of jeans into a cool denim skirt, or redesign an old t-shirt. Learn some skills to allow you to re-vamp your wardrobe at little or no cost in the eco-fashion workshop area.

Alternative Transport – how about Go Carting for alternative transport? Children at Kentish Town City Farm, Castlehaven Community Centre and other community organisation in Camden have been busy with Renzo the toy-maker building Go Carts from waste wood. Check them out for yourself in the Bikefest area on Chester Road, as they go head-to-head in a daredevil race!

Low emission vehicles– Love your car, but not your carbon? In the Low Emissions vehicle arena, you’ll be able to have a look at some of the latest green cars and scooters, and learn about car clubs and other green transport options. We also have some more unusual examples of green transport – visit the arena find out more. Free and reduced rate memberships to car clubs will also be available.

Surveys – Camden Green Fair volunteers may ask you to fill in a survey. We’d be really grateful of you would take few minutes to complete the survey for us – the Camden Green Fair is a charity and we rely on your feedback to gain funding – this allows us to keep the fair free for visitors to enjoy next year.

It will only take a couple of minutes of your time and volunteers can help you fill it in if you prefer. To say thank you we have lots of prizes up for grabs, including:

A brand new Trek bike!! Plus fruit trees for the first 1,000 surveys returned to the main info point; Car club memberships; Three 12-month subscriptions to the Ecologist magazine; Healthy RDA drinks; Vintage Roots Wine and Freedom Beer; Organic, Fairtrade chocolates; Fairtrade tea, coffee, honey and cereal; a bag of unusual Fairtrade goodies from the Camden Fairtrade Network; Fairtrade clothes and much more… 

Your details will only be used for research purposes, will not be shared with unauthorised third parties and will be managed in accordance with data protection guidelines.   

Donations
– as a charity we spend all year working hard to raise funds for the next Fair. This year, contributions from sponsors, donors, and funders have paid for the event but the cost of running the Fair is going up and up. Details of all our supporters can be found here.

We’d like to keep the Camden Green Fair free to visit so if you’ve enjoyed your day, why not leave a donation, to say so, at the info points? No donation is too big or small and all of the money raised will only be used for next year’s Camden Green Fair.

If every visitor left just £1 we could do so much more…

If you think your business might wish to get involved next year, please leave your business card in the donations boxes or ask to speak to the Coordinator or Fundraiser who will be around all day.

Photos and filming
– you need to acquire a special license for filming in Regent’s Park. Visitors should be aware that there is likely to be frequent photography and filming throughout the day. Please ask for the press liaison officer, Wendy Baverstock, if you have any concerns. 
 
Your experience – Your enjoyment of the fair or so important to us. Please let us know hat you think of the Camden Green Fair – feedback can be given to any volunteer who will ensure that it is fed back to the organisers.

Archive – Have you been to the Camden Green Fair before? Maybe you have been coming ever since the beginning, way back when…? Even if this is your first Camden Green Fair, we’d love to hear from you. In the lead up to our 20th birthday, we are collecting an archive of people’s experiences and your statements, photographs, film footage and other memorabilia will form an online and physical memory bank for the future.
